About this painting

Abraham sent his servant to look for a wife for his son Isaac. The servant - most likely Eliezer - prays to God for a sign to decide which woman He intended to be Isaac’s wife. Eliezer proposes the following sign: the woman who gives him water to drink and also offers to water his camels at the well, will be the wife of Isaac.

When Eliezer meets Rebecca, she gives him water and offers to water his camels. This ensures Eliezer that she is the one.
