About this painting

Jesus, the Son of God, came into this world in the appearance of a human baby. He united divine and human nature in one Being. The circumstances in which He was born were humble and indicate that His life on this earth was defined by suffering.

Old Testament prophecies fulfilled:

- At the birth of the Messiah, a number of prophecies were fulfilled. In Mary's hymn (Luke 1) that she uttered during her pregnancy, Mary stated that: ‘He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.’ (Luke 1:54,55)

- Isaiah 9:6 ‘For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.’

- Genesis 49:10 ‘The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.’

- Jeremiah 23:5,6 ‘The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’

- Isaiah 49:1b, 6 ‘Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.’ ‘He says: ‘It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.’’
