About this painting
God allowed Adam and Eve to eat the fruit of all trees in paradise, the Garden
of Eden, except the one tree in the middle of the garden.
Satan (speaking through the snake) seduced Eve to eat of the forbidden
fruit, by making her doubt the prohibition of God. ‘When you eat of the fruit
you will become like God’, was his message.
After Eve had eaten, Adam also ate of the fruit. By doing this, our
first ancestors rebelled against God. For that reason a curse came upon the
earth.
Adam and Eve were driven out of paradise to prevent them from eating
also the fruit of the ‘tree of life’.
