See: Matthew 9 verse 18 to 26, and Mark 5 verse 21 to 43.
Jesus arrives by ship in Capernaum. Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, falls on his knees before Him, and begs Him to go with him to his dying 12-year-old daughter.
While Jesus is accompanying him to his house, a woman who has been suffering from a blood issue for 12 years, touches the robe of Jesus, trusting that she will be healed by His power. Jesus tells her that her faith has saved her.
When news is brought from Jairus' house that his daughter has meanwhile died, Jesus encourages Jairus and tells him not to fear, but only to believe.
In both cases, the personal faith in Jesus turns out to be crucial.
Raising the dead is one of the 'signs of the Messiah'.
See Matthew 11 verse 3 to 5. Isaiah 26 verse 19.
Daniel 12 verse 2.
It proves Jesus' power, not only over the elements of nature, demons and diseases, but also over death.
At His command, the spirit of Jairus' daughter returns to her body.
Jesus did not become unclean by touching her dead body;
the uncleanness was instead taken away.
The blood-flowing woman, who was unclean because of her ailment, was made clean by touching Jesus in faith.
Yet there is something more important than the bodily resurrection from the dead.
Ephesians 2 verse 1 says:
You also He quickened with Him, you who were dead in trespasses and sins.
Sinful existence is spiritual death.
When a person comes to faith in Jesus, he/she receives eternal life, and even though the body will die someday, the soul will live forever and will later be reunited with the body when it is raised "incorruptible".
See 1 Corinthians 15 verse 42.
John 5 verse 19 to 29.
By dying as a human, Jesus, God's Son, vicariously bore the penalty for our sin. Thus, through faith in Him, we can receive eternal life.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The time is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear Him shall live.
John 5 verse 25.
